What tool should I use?

There is no single correct answer to this question, but if you choose to create a video, we recommend one of the three tools listed below. If you have a favorite tool of your own, we'd love to hear about it!

Adobe Spark Video
PROS: Free, EASY, choose from existing templates or start from scratch, using video clips, images, and text. Access to openly licensed icons/images. Available in desktop or mobile version (the iPad app is great; I use it WAY more than the desktop version!! -Mary)
CONS: Works great for this type of uber-short "marketing" video, but might not be the right tool for creating lecture content.

This is VERY basic, created at 11PM on a Friday night on my iPad - I'd love to try incorporating some short video clips, too!

Screencast-o-Matic
PROS: Free, EASY, includes ability to record your screen and/or your webcam.
CONS:Editing is available, but only with the paid account. Good news: The lower-tier paid account is only $1.65/month!

Just use your phone!
  • PROS: Zero additional hardware cost, plus lots of great free/low cost video editing apps available (see below)!
  • CONS: Works great for basic videos; once you want to create more intricate projects, you may want to move to your computer (but nothing is stopping you from using those clips from your phone...)

Yes, I edited this with TechSmith's Camtasia, but I recorded everything on my iPhone.
