COURSE PLANNING AND DESIGN (The IDR Process)
The IDR is a three phase process that is flexible enough to produce the course you want while meeting your needs and availability. The IDR is customized to each individual project and its learning objectives. You, along with your instructional designer, create a plan that meets your specific needs.
The IDR consists of three phases: Phase 1 - Analysis and Design, Phase 2 - Development and Implementation, and Phase 3 - Evaluation. Each phase is based on research and best practices.
In Phase 1, the needs and design of the course are analyzed and determined. You and your instructional designer will analyze the project needs, create a course map consisting of competencies and learning objectives, and design a plan for each lesson.
In Phase 2, course materials are created and inserted into the course. You will meet with your instructional designer frequently to review progress and discuss ideas. Your instructional designer will also connect you with a variety of resources available to the CTLA and CGCC. This course is complete when the course is ready for students.
In Phase 3, you and your designer will evaluate the course both before and after students begin enrollment. Using these reviews, you can be confident that your course is ready for students. You’ll also leave with a plan to keep improving the course so you can implement new ideas, practices, and technologies!
