Most topics follow a Learn → Practice → Get Support model:

• Learn: Attend the introductory virtual workshop or watch the recording independently.
• Practice: Join an in-person CTLA session for guided practice and hands-on application.
• Get Support: Attend a later virtual Q&A and work session for troubleshooting, additional demonstrations, and support.

Faculty may participate in the sessions that best meet their needs. In-person and follow-up sessions will remain flexible so faculty questions and materials can help guide the work.

Fall 2026

September: Panorama, Canvas, and Accessible Course Content

Start with the bigger picture: accessibility requirements, what it means to provide students with an accessible version of required course content, and how to appropriately present and label multiple versions of a resource. Learn how Panorama helps identify and prioritize accessibility concerns and how to address common barriers directly in Canvas.

October: Accessible Word and Google Documents

Learn the foundations that make word-processing documents easier for everyone to navigate. Topics include heading styles, document structure, images and alternative text, recognizing when diagrams require extended descriptions, and using the Panorama remediation workflow with Word files. We’ll also examine accessibility limitations in Google Docs and how Grackle can help identify and address issues.

November: Accessible PDFs and Scanned Documents

Take on one of the more challenging areas of accessibility. Learn to distinguish between text-based, tagged, untagged, and scanned PDFs; determine when remediation is appropriate; and recognize when recreating or replacing a document is the better solution. We’ll use Panorama to identify issues while focusing on making the document itself more usable and accessible.

December: Accessible Presentations — PowerPoint and Google Slides

Learn how reading order, color contrast, slide structure, and alternative text affect the accessibility of presentations. We’ll demonstrate the Panorama workflow for PowerPoint, including how to adjust and verify reading order, why some verification notices may continue to appear, and when visual content requires more than brief alternative text.

Spring 2027

January: Captions, Transcripts, and Accessible Audio/Video

Explore what makes captions effective, the difference between automated and reviewed captions, when transcripts are useful, and how to evaluate multimedia before providing it to students. We’ll focus on practical workflows for improving existing instructional media and planning accessible media from the beginning.

February: Audio Description and Accessible Multimedia

Go beyond captions to consider what students need when important information is communicated visually. Learn when audio description or a comparable text-based alternative may be necessary, how to recognize meaningful visual information, and how to design or select multimedia that reduces the need for extensive remediation later.

March: Using AI to Support Accessibility Remediation

Explore practical ways generative AI can assist—not replace—the accessibility remediation process. Examples will include prompting an LLM to improve Canvas HTML, converting inaccessible table-based layouts into responsive layouts, and transforming content from PDFs into accessible Canvas pages. We’ll also discuss what still requires human review and verification.
