Do you ever click on the wrong course in your Canvas Dashboard because they all look much the same? Does your active course have the Base Camp badge on it (which could confuse your students)? This week's tip will help you! As most of you know by now, I am a super-visual person - being able to distinguish my courses visually is a big help to me in locating the course that I want to work on within Canvas. Here are some tips to help you visually differentiate your Canvas courses - a more unique look to your course will also help students locate it faster in their Dashboards! 1) GIVE YOUR COURSE A NICKNAME and/or CUSTOMIZE THE COLOR: Giving your course a nickname and selecting a color for the course that you can see in your Dashboard are both controlled in the same place. In your Dashboard, locate the course that you wish to make changes to, and click the dots in the upper right corner. You will see a popup prompting you to choose a color and/or give the course a nickname. Be sure to click “Apply” when you are done! (2) ADD AN IMAGE: Here are my courses for this semester in my Canvas Dashboard – you can see that I have a particular naming convention that helps me stay organized, I have a color scheme that helps me distinguish my Tuesday hybrid classes from my Thursday hybrid classes, and an image that allows me to distinguish which particular course (Macro or Micro, in my case) I am looking at. If you have a course that does not yet have a Dashboard image, it’s simple to add one; just go to your Course Settings. Under Course Details, you will see a box that says “Choose Image.” You then have the option to either select an image from your own computer, or to search Unsplash (a tool within Canvas) for an image.
