This week, I'm pulling one from the vault - back in Fall 2019, when I first sent this particular Tech Tuesday Teaching Tip, we had no idea how important the capabilities of the G Suite tools would become for us during the pandemic. Want to amp up your Docs, Sheets, or Forms? Try exploring Google Add-ons!
If there is anything we’ve learned in the past 18 months, it’s that we need to be prepared for any eventuality! Are you ready to pivot your instruction in the event that you, your students, or your students' families get sick this semester? Do you know what your options are, or how to leverage the basic equipment in your classroom to potentially support a combination of in-person and remote students?
Did you know that this is my 70th Tech Tuesday/LOL blog post? In honor of the Big 7-0, I've compiled a resource document that includes all of the blog posts to date!
Did you know that the library can provide "custom-designed information literacy instruction... tailored to your specific research-based assignment and student needs." Now that our campuses are beginning to reopen this highly valuable instruction is available as in-person instruction for hybrid classes as well as continuing to be available fully online.
Shout-out this week to Karen Villalobos, fellow Economics faculty, for sharing her use of Jeopardy labs when she was part of our "Some Good News: Lessons Learned in a Very Strange Year" panel in April 2021! Thanks to Karen, and to all of the other faculty members who shared their valuable time and ideas with us.
Did you know that the library has added many new books and resources to its collection? Check the cover images below for a quick look into what has been added to the collection.

In the meantime, we'd like to gauge the level of faculty interest in HyFlex training.
If you find yourself asking questions such as...
Did you know that he Writing Center provides valuable resources for you and your students? They will arrange to make an instructional visit to your classroom in-person, work with you to schedule a time for you to bring them to the Center, or coordinate a virtual Writing Center orientation. They also have created a Writing Tutoring resource page that you can include in your Canvas courses. The page has a direct link to online tutoring, making it very convenient for students.
If you find yourself asking questions such as...
Signed up for an in-person session the first week of June? Your Hybrid Summit Canvas course is now open! This message is for those of you who registered for a section of Hybrid Summit that includes an in-person session 6/1, 6/2, or 6/3.
If for any reason you will be unable to attend, please click this link and select "unenroll" from the top right of the window (we have quite a few faculty on the waiting list for our June sessions!). If you are unable to unenroll yourself, contact ctla@cgc.edu to make a request to be removed from the session in which you are currently enrolled.
All good things must come to an end; today's post is the last official Tech Tuesday of the 2020-2021 academic year. Also, at 2:30 this afternoon, Jen P. and I will be hosting our final Live Online...Live! session for this year. It's going to be a great session, with a bunch of your CGCC colleagues sharing Some Good News from this crazy year. Fear not - we'll be back and ready to go in August! April is almost over, and nobody wants one more thing to think about right now - which is exactly why we are rounding out this year's Tech Tuesday offerings with a SUPER-EASY, SUPER-FUN (and free! no account necessary!) tech tool.
Chandler-Gilbert has hundreds of hybrid course offerings scheduled for Fall 2021. The question is - do students know what 'hybrid' means?
Moreover, do we? Want to help your students be prepared for the first day of class but don't want to publish your Canvas course? Use the Course distribution list for your course section in Gmail! All courses get them once they are active in SIS. When you send an email this way any student that is registered for your course at the time will receive your message*! Remember to Blind Carbon Copy your students so that if they reply all the other students will not receive the email. This is the same as checking the box to send an individual message to students in Canvas. *This function remains available for 90 days after the semester ends, but you need to add ".completed" to the address. Example: Current Student Gmail Group: CGC.2021.Spring.BPC.110.21561@cgc.edu Completed Student Gmail Group (students have been graded in SIS): CGC.2021.Spring.BPC.110.21561.completed@cgc.edu In deference to CGCC's first ever "Week of Gratitude," I thought I'd see what kind of technology was out there to help all of us in our collective quest for increased positivity!
Before I talk about some of the ways in which you can encourage student engagement with videos in your Canvas course, let’s talk just a bit about some video recording options as well.
When did online discussion boards get such a bad reputation that they became the target of internet memes?!
Discussion Boards have become an integral component of most online courses. The real question is - how effective are they in terms of supporting student learning? Could they be better?
If this past year has taught us anything at all, it's this: Have. A. Backup. Plan. Giving "March Madness" a whole different meaning, we find ourselves in another challenging situation! With many of Maricopa's systems currently down, we once again need to remind ourselves to remain flexible, patient, and willing to undertake some creative workarounds.
