FACULTY DEVELOPMENT
The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment works with Faculty Development to provide professional growth opportunities, resources, and support for faculty. The CTLA promotes effective teaching with a focus on student learning through ongoing programs, events, consultations, faculty interest groups, and collaboration with other offices on campus.
If you have questions or ideas for faculty development, please contact the Faculty Development Coordinator or the CTLA.
The faculty development coordinator (FDC) leads and develops professional development and the faculty development committee. The most notable events occur during the week of accountability when Convocation, Day of Learning, Day of Assessment, Adjunct Faculty Orientation, take place.
In addition, the Faculty Toolkit, and all syllabus templates are generated by the coordinator. During the semester, the faculty developer coordinates workshops through the CTLA, is responsible for adjunct credit compensation, serves as a resource for appointive faculty completing their Faculty Evaluation Plan, and leads in planning the Summer Institutes.
District programs such as Maricopa Excellence in Teaching and other professional growth opportunities are announced by the coordinator. Currently, FDC has begun to focus on employee wellness through Mindful Mondays. Additionally, FDC has become an integral part of producing the President’s All Employee In-Service meetings. FDC also co-leads CGCC Connects, a task force on Suicide Prevention and Awareness. All of the FDC activities rely on the outstanding work of the CGCC faculty, therefore the FDC welcomes all opportunities to collaborate with faculty and staff.

Adjunct Faculty
Adjunct faculty are a highly valuable and integral part of Chandler-Gilbert Community College. Approximately 600 adjunct faculty members teach 60% of the classes at CGCC. The Adjunct Faculty Association (“AFA”) is a non-profit professional organization that exists solely to support the almost 6,000 adjunct faculty who teach among the 10 colleges of the Maricopa County Community College District (“MCCCD”). The AFA seeks to:
- Educate the public and MCCCD institutions about adjunct faculty talents and abilities.
- Support the advancement of adjunct faculty knowledge and skills.
- Provide a network for sharing common interests, education and assistance.
- Encourage effective practices and resource utilization to improve education within the MCCCD.
- Advocate for adjunct faculty within the structure of the MCCCD policies and guidelines
